The Apparition

I initially made a rough version of this creature concept for the Evilbook 2019 publication.
Later on I decided to go back to it, rework and finalize it.

The Apparitions are ethereal beings that only exist in the wold between - Imghul. They inhabit the time-space in the gap between reality and perception, or perhaps they are what causes it. A mortal would normally see an Apparition as a blurry spot on an old photograph or as a lingering shadow in the corner of one's eye. Those unfortunate men who manage to open their minds to the Apparition and let it slip through the cracks into their conscience would describe it as an unspeakable and illogical terror. A mixture of meaningless threatening shapes that don't make any sense but can not be erased from memory. While the Appairiton itself does not and can not have a physical form, it being in contact with a human brain produces those facinating images of danger, despair and sometimes inexplicable beauty.
